SYNJECO SA
Synjeco SA, a company based in the southern
part of Switzerland, was established in 1941 by Mr. Hans Schneider. While Synjeco is primarily known in Switzerland as the leading import-export
company, specialized in precious, semi-precious and synthetic stones, it
has over the years equally successfully gotten involved in other activities.
One of these activities is the importation, exportation and distribution
of first-class pipe tobaccos, both in tins and in bulk, hand made and machine
made tobacco pipes from a wide range of countries, and a substantial assortment
of smoking accessories. Synjeco has also created a sort of "Smoker's Haven" where pipe smokers are invited to come and spend
a day in the company of fellow pipe smokers, talking about their noble hobby. The place has a show room where hundreds of
pipes are on display, as well as bulk tobaccos and smoking accessories. Hot and cold drinks are offered for free, and of course,
all the tobacco samples your tongue can take!

HANS SCHNEIDER, The Founder and former Chairman
My name is Hans Schneider, born in April 1926 in Bern. As one of the founders of Synjeco SA,
and since 1941, I have been the Managing Director of the Gemstones Department, and since 1992 I have been the Chairman and General Manager of Synjeco SA.
After 50 years as a cigarette smoker, with some unsuccesful attempts as a pipe smoker, I was forced to stop smoking, according to my doctor's instructions ...
Seeing my business partner amd son Daniel enjoying his pipes, I decided to try again ... the time with succes !!!
Since 1997 I have been a happy pipe smoker (and pipe only). My favourite pipe shape is the Bent Apple, followed by some other bent forms, including freehands and "calabashes". My favourite tobaccos are "Danish Style", but from time to time I smoke modern English mixtures.
Unfortunately Hans Schneider died on September 6, 2005 after a long period of sickness. We keep his work, his philosophy and his way to manage life and business in mind, and are still honnored that we have the opportunity to go ahead.
DANIEL SCHNEIDER, General Manager
My name is Daniel. I was born on the Lago Maggiore in Switzerland, on February 23, 1962.
After the primary school in Brissago and the college in Ascona, I obtained a M Sc. from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich, in October 1988.
After different engineering and management jobs, I started working for Synjeco SA, as
General Manager.
I was 15 years old when I first decided to smoke a pipe; I then made use of my father's (not in use) pipe, filled with sun-dried grass. The "operation" was more than
pleasant as far as the taste was concerned, so that I soon found out a way to try "real" tobacco ...
After a period during which I smoked cigarettes (but never forgetting my pipes), I decided
to become a full-time pipe smoker !
My favourite pipe shape is the Canadian, followed by Billards and Dublins. Some freehands and bents also take a place in my collection, but are perhaps not so smoked often enough...
My preferred tobaccos are classical English mixtures, and sometimes pressed virginias.

The ingredient tobaccos are mentioned in straightforward terms, whenever possible, and also a comment is provided, based on our own personal experience of smoking the tobacco.

If you opt for the "Pipe Gallery", you'll be shown a page that contains thumbnails of all the pipes available within that particular brand. A minimum of two photos are provided per each pipe (sometimes, up to 5 photos): You can see BOTH sides of the pipe. One photo has a background in square inches, while the other in square centimeters (also, COLOR-coded).
