What is the "Fiammata Corale" 3-Note?
As you may know, DC pipes are graded into 9 different categories: Rusticated, Smooth Natural, and Fiammata (or Straight Grain). In each category, there are three sub-categories and given a number of notes: 1, 2, and 3 Notes. This means that the lowest (only in the DC grading system!) is the Rusticated 1-Note, while the highest is the "Fiammata 3-Notes". So, "What is the 'Corale' story?", you might ask! Well, being such a rare pipe (with perfect straight grain and usually free of the tiniest sandpits, it has been honored with the name: "Corale" ("choral", in musical terms).
In a good year, Bruto manages to produce 1-2 "Fiammata 3-Notes Corale" pipes. There is no fixed price for the Corale. Bruto determines the price based on what *he* thinks of the pipe as a whole; the bigger the big, the tighter the grain, and the fewer the tiny sandpits, the higher price.
How come you've never seen or heard of them?
Simple: They'are RARE! And Bruto is a bit too fussy(!) to use that stamp even when a pipe is a qualified candidate.

Not only is this pipe a true "Fiammata Corale", it is a GIANT one, which makes it one of a couple of pipes Bruto has managed to make in his pipe making career! |
